In 2014, he was named captain of the Indian test team. During South Africa’s 2015 tour of India, he became the world’s fastest T20I batsman to reach 1,000 runs. Later that year, during South Africa’s tour of India, Kohli became the world’s fastest T20I batter to reach 1,000 runs. In 2017, Virat Kohli became the first Indian cricketer to score 2818 runs in international matches.

Under his command, India won 40 of 68 tests, with 11 draws, establishing his excellent captaincy.

In September 2021, he stepped down from the position of T20I captaincy. Then, on January 15, 2022, Kohli took to Twitter to announce the heartbreaking news that his 7-year tenure as India’s test captain had come to an end.
